Black Scholars

For over four decades, the Urban League of Rochester Black Scholars™ program has provided academic recognition, college readiness assistance, and scholarship incentives to students who achieve and maintain a ‘B’ average or better (83% and up) throughout high school.

Black Scholars provides honorees with helpful college/career readiness programming and scholarship opportunities in their senior year through our scholarship networks. We continue this support as our Black Scholars move up from high school and on to being leaders in their communities and workplaces.

Don’t Forget about the Endowment Fund: This fund is to assist local African American college students who faced financial difficulties paying for college.

2025 BLACK SCHOLARS CEREMONY

This year marks 46 years of honoring academic excellence in our community, and we’re pulling out all the stops to make it a night to remember. The Black Scholars Award Ceremony is more than a celebration — it’s a legacy event that brings together students, families, educators, and community leaders to recognize the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our graduating class.

Whether you’re cheering on a loved one, representing a school, or attending as a proud alumni, this night is for you. From powerful keynote speakers to high-energy performances, dinner, and live music, the atmosphere will be one of joy, pride, and inspiration. And yes — your sneakers are absolutely encouraged.

Let’s come together to uplift our scholars, honor their journey, and send them into the next chapter with the recognition they deserve.
